Counselor's Corner

What elementary-school children think about adults’ careers may play a bigger role than we think. One study found that one-fourth of middle-aged adults had made decisions about their current professions in childhood. Our Career Day, a school-wide event that took place on March 20th, brought many community members to our school to speak about their jobs. These ranged from those that help people and animals (Red Cross, police, bookmobile, school bus driver, pet groomer) to artists (singer-songwriter), to science-related jobs (NASA engineer, land surveyor, paramedic), and those that involve physical work (delivery driver, windshield replacement technician, and pest control). Engage your children in a discussion about what they saw and help them to start thinking of what they might want to become!
